The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its Annual Education Excellence Luncheon on April 16 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1000 Woodward Place NE, handing out more than $120,000 in scholarships.
“Our board of directors and our members always look forward to the Education Luncheon because it celebrates the academic accomplishments of our Hispanic youth,” chamber president and CEO Alex O. Romero said.
Registration for the awards luncheon is scheduled from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; the program is from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. Tables of 10 are available for $300. Walk-up guests are welcome.
The purpose of the AHCC luncheon and awards program is to celebrate student achievement, and advocate for entrance into and completion of secondary education, the chamber said in a news release.
“This year, thanks to the cooperation of Albuquerque Public Schools and the Partners in Education Program, CNM and UNM and other Hispanic organizations, we have distributed our applications to hundreds of interested students throughout the Albuquerque area,” said Vivian LaValley, vice president of education and work force development for the chamber.
The chamber, through multiple partnerships with local businesses and corporate entities, will give out $120,000 in scholarships to more than 100 students at the event, the chamber said.
Included will be the Beca del Alcade, sponsored by a partnership with the City of Albuquerque, UNM, the Asociacion de Comerciantes Mexicanos and AGM Radio Group.
